We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Palliative Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

Our client are one of the largest providers of healthcare in the area and has a complement of over 930 beds for a local population of 390,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million. The Trust forms one of the major acute Trusts in the North West with all of the usual specialties on site as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the departments of Neurosciences, Oncology, Renal Medicine, major trauma, plastics and burns, specialist mobility and rehabilitation and vascular services.

Our client's Palliative department is being created to support with the planned expansion of 7 day specialist palliative care services hospital and community local palliative care services across hospice, community and hospital settings, which will be supported by an already approved business case.

The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, these include: provide excellent Specialist palliative care medical input to patients through community outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits and Inpatient sessions at the Hospice, Participate in weekly locality and Hospice Specialist Palliative Care Multidisciplinary Team meetings hosted at St. Catherine's hospice to lead on and support patient care, Work collaboratively with the four other Consultants in Palliative Medicine and the wider multi-professional team to ensure continuity of care, Participate in the on-call rota at St Catherine's Hospice on a 1:5, which includes the provision of senior support for the St Catherine's Hospice 24 hour Professional Advice Line & Provide inter-speciality and interdisciplinary liaison and advice flexibly working across boundaries.
