We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Paediatrics on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Paediatrics department.

Our client's Paediatric Department is committed to providing the highest standard of inpatient and outpatient care on the District General Hospital site and in the community. The general Paediatric and neonatal rotas are split and consultants have on call responsibility for one of these rotas. This post involves on call for the neonatal rota. All consultants have a special interest in one or more areas and have Child Protection responsibilities. Paediatric admissions total around 4500 per annum. There are 2700 new patient referrals from general practitioners and the birth rate is currently increasing, currently being approximately 3000 per year. There is a Neonatal retrieval service for those infants requiring uplift of care, in line with national recommendations.

The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as: provide consultant cover in a "hot-week'' style on the neonatal unit; providing care for infants on the neonatal unit, post-natal wards, and deliveries, and supervising junior staff. This includes 1:6 consultant out of hours on call for the neonatal unit. There is an expectation that the hot week neonatal Consultant will support the General Paediatric team in the care of acutely unwell children less than 10kg requiring HDU or ITU care, provide out-patient services including general paediatric clinics on the remaining weeks. Opportunities exist for a specialist interest clinic. Interests that complement those already in the department are encouraged. You will also contribute to the regular safeguarding clinics, providing assessments of physical safeguarding concerns. The department also provides a primary care referral triage/advice service via Choose and Book, which you would be expected to contribute to & important that the appointee share the commitment of the department for excellence in clinical service and the policy of continuing development of innovative service delivery and high quality training for all staff. You will be approachable, pro-active and able to provide advice and support to colleagues, junior doctors and members of the multidisciplinary team
