We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Cardiology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Cardiology department.

Our client are one of the leading interventional cardiology units in the United Kingdom, with a national & international profile for service, innovation, and research. They serves a regional population of 2.8 million in Yorkshire, and performs over 1000 primary PCI procedures annually, with around 2300 PCI procedures in total. The Trans-catheter valve intervention service, led by a leading consultant, who is internationally renowned. Around 400 TAVI procedures are performed annually. A percutaneous mitral valve leaflet repair service is established and has recently received approval for commissioning. Leeds is at the forefront of innovation, research, and education in trans-catheter valve intervention. There are currently 9 Yorkshire-based interventional cardiology consultants, 3 of whom provide the trans-catheter valve service with the support of a Fellow and 3 Nurse Specialists. A further 10 visiting coronary interventionists contribute to the PPCI rota.

the successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties whilst working here. These include: contribute to the delivery, development, and expansion of the trans-catheter valve intervention service in Yorkshire. The TAVI service is growing, with a 250% increase in numbers since the 3rd appointment in 2016, and on-going annual growth of 20-25%. Percutaneous mitral valve leaflet repair was approved for routine commissioning by NHS England in 2019. Commissioning of centres in the North East & Yorkshire region is underway, and our client has been proposed as the sole centre for the Yorkshire & Humber region, contribute to the delivery of the urgent and emergency coronary intervention service, including 24/7 primary PCI. Retirees include visiting interventionists from surrounding district hospitals who contributed to the coronary service. The appointee will maintain the current frequency of on-call, work with colleagues in the interventional cardiology team to deliver acute on call and inpatient cardiology care for patients with ischaemic heart disease (currently 1 in 14). This involves acute ward rounds during normal working hours & contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Cardiology department. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.
