Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in the East Midlands to help recruit a Consultant in Oncology for a substantive post.
The Trust is one of the largest employers in the area and are on an exciting journey. With over 12,000 staff, You will be joining a friendly and supportive Department which provides comprehensive services across the region.
The Chemotherapy facility includes a state of the art Day Unit with 24 outpatient chemotherapy chairs, two 2 bedded siderooms, and 4 counselling/clinic rooms. Chemotherapy is prepared in a satellite pharmacy within the Unit.
Treatment is provided by experienced chemotherapy nurses who are well versed in cannulation and administering chemotherapy. There is a dedicated Combined Triage and Assessment Unit (CTAU), staffed by Specialty Doctors, ACPs and a junior doctor to assess and admit/discharge unwell oncology and haematology patients on active treatment.
The Chemotherapy facility includes a state of the art Chemotherapy Unit with 18 outpatient chemotherapy chairs, two bedded side-rooms for assessing and treating unwell patients, and 7 counselling/clinic rooms integrated with Oncology.
The Oncology service is well supported by a well-established Haematology Service, Palliative Medicine Service including inpatient unit, Clinical Psychologists, interpreters and bereavement support staff. Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and Radiotherapy Physics are housed together in a new purpose-built centre.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provision of a comprehensive clinical oncology service to the NHS Trust and surrounding areas with responsibilities for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department.
- Responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of your staff.
- Provision of an out-of-hours service with Consultant colleagues including on-call rota commitments (1:12)
- Provision of cover for your Consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients and supervision of junior doctors.
- Responsible for the professional supervision, training and management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally, as appropriate.
- Responsibility for implementing the Infection Control Policies as determined by the Trust.
- Participate in clinical audit under local arrangements (in light of relevant department guidance).
- Commitment to entering patients into NCRN trials where appropriate. If the appointed candidate has an interest in research, this may be supported by the Trust and the Division.
- Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process which will be undertaken by the Assistant Clinical Director for Oncology
