Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in North East England to help recruit a Consultant Microbiologist for a substantive post, but will also consider a Locum Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months minimum.
We are looking for a highly motivated Consultant to join our established Microbiology team, providing clinical leadership, expert advice, and advancing infection services across the local region.

The Role
As Consultant in Microbiology, you will:
- Provide expert clinical advice in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of infections.
- Play an active role in infection control and hospital-acquired infection management.
- Contribute to antimicrobial ward rounds, ITU ward reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Support and develop specialist services including OPAT, antimicrobial stewardship, and MDTs.
- Supervise, develop, and ensure quality in laboratory services, maintaining UKAS accreditation standards.
- Take on rotational leadership roles within Microbiology, with additional PAs available where appropriate.
- Participate in teaching, audit, and research, with encouragement to pursue personal interests in subspecialty areas.

- 2 Consultants, 1 Specialist, and 2 Specialty Doctors in Microbiology.
- A dedicated and experienced Biomedical Scientist team (54+ WTE).

You will be:
- GMC registered with a licence to practise.
- On (or within 6 months of) the Specialist Register in Medical Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases.
- Holder of FRCPath (or equivalent) and MBBS/MBChB (or equivalent).
- A strong communicator and collaborative clinician, with a passion for infection services.
