Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Health Board in South West Scotland to help appoint a Consultant Microbiologist on a substantive basis.

Are you ready for a fresh professional challenge, where your expertise in microbiology and infectious diseases can make a real, lasting difference? Our NHS Client is inviting applications for an inspired, forward-thinking Consultant Microbiologist to join the friendly, progressive team. Whether your passion lies in diagnostics, infection prevention, clinical liaison or teaching, they will offer you the space, resources, and support to shape your own future.

In the heart of South West Scotland, they offer something special: cutting-edge clinical practice in an environment that values people over bureaucracy, community over anonymity, and innovation over inertia.

They have one of the most modern hospitals in the UK, designed with all single en-suite rooms — a feature that has dramatically improved infection control and patient recovery. The hospital is bright, spacious, and fully equipped with the latest diagnostic and laboratory technology. It's a place built for people who want to deliver great care efficiently and safely.

The Role…

You'll join a dynamic, friendly team of Consultant Microbiologists who together provide a full diagnostic and infection prevention service across the region. As Consultant Microbiologist, you will:

- Provide expert clinical and laboratory advice to hospital and primary care teams, supporting optimal investigation and treatment of infection.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in specialties such as ICU, Haematology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and Surgery, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to infection management.
- Contribute to infection prevention and control policies, antimicrobial stewardship, and outbreak management.
- Take a lead role or develop a specialist interest within the department — whether laboratory development, clinical liaison, infection control, or antimicrobial management.
- Participate in the 1:4 consultant on-call rota, which is fully supported by remote access, ensuring work-life balance even when on duty.
