Triple West Medical are consulting with an NHS Client who is seeking a dedicated Locum / Substantive Consultant Haematologist to join their dynamic and welcoming department based in East of England. This role includes specialist sessions at a nearby Shelford Group NHS Hospital site, offering a rare opportunity to combine rural hospital impact with access to tertiary-level subspecialty development.
The Opportunity
This Consultant post will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive haematology service across the Trust, working alongside existing consultant colleagues within a collaborative multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will support both inpatient and outpatient services, including specialist clinics, while contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of haematology services within the organisation.
A unique feature of this role is the opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest through regular sessions at a nearby Shelford Group NHS Hospital site, enabling the successful candidate to participate in specialist clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings at a leading tertiary centre.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant Haematologist will:
- Provide specialist clinical care for patients with haematological disorders across inpatient, outpatient and chemotherapy/day unit settings.
- Conduct regular clinics, including Macmillan Unit clinics and telephone follow-up clinics.
- Participate in ward rounds and provide clinical advice to hospital clinicians and community healthcare professionals.
- Support diagnosis and management of haematological malignancies, bleeding disorders and thrombotic conditions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings locally and regionally.
- Contribute to the consultant on-call rota.
- Support teaching, supervision and training of junior doctors and healthcare professionals.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and service development initiatives.
The Department
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic department within the Division of Medicine. The haematology laboratory service operates as part of the regional Pathology Alliance, a UKAS-accredited collaborative pathology network providing integrated laboratory services across regional hospitals.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP (or equivalent)
- Full registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility within six months of interview
- Clinical training equivalent to UK CCT in Haematology or General Internal Medicine
