Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology - Essex - Perm or Locum FTC

Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust based in South East/Essex Region to help recruit a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology for a substantive post but also may consider a Locum Fixed Term Contract for 12 months minimum.

The Trust have over 10,000 staff offering comprehensive range of acute and community services over a number of sites to over 1 million people. The NHS Trust wish to continue to build their reputation as well as advancing standards of clinical care that are at the cutting edge of their specialty.

The Diabetes and Endocrinology team at the Hospital site is managed by a team of three full time Consultants, seven Specialist Diabetes Nurses (a mix of full time and part time), one Specialist Diabetic Podiatrist, two Specialist Diabetic Midwives, Junior Doctors, HCAs and an Administrative/Secretarial team. The team run a full Endocrinology outpatient service and provide in-reach reviews and clinical advice to inpatients as and when appropriate. The team also provide a specialist Diabetes outpatient service, in addition to working closely with the Local Integrated Community Diabetes provider. Joint specialist clinics are held on site to manage Antenatal Diabetes, Diabetic Foot Care, Diabetic Technology and Paediatric Diabetes. Pre-pregnancy counselling for diabetic patients is provided alongside the specialist diabetes midwives. They have the locality hub focus for head and neck surgery, a locality hub robotic adrenal surgical unit and the full range of diagnostic endocrine testing expected in a large district hospital

Duties/Responsibilities

- To assess, manage and treat Diabetes and Endocrine patients attending Outpatient clinics
- To participate in and supervise processes to improve communication of patient care such as handover and morning report
- To participate in the maintenance and recording of Key Performance Indicators
- To contribute to and develop outpatient services in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
- The candidate will be expected to partake in the General Internal Medicine Physician of the day rota at Broomfield Hospital which currently operates a 1 in 22 rota
- A weekly single session on the dynamic acute medical unit, which is likely to include some specialist opinions as well as mixed medical management
- To supervise implementation of local and national guidelines and standards relating to acute admissions.
