Newly registered doctors or doctors reapplying to the GMC with a licence to practice, are required to work in an Approved Practice Setting (APS). This is to ensure their renewal of a licence to practice.

An Approved Practice Setting (APS) is an organisation which possesses appropriate systems for the required effective management of doctors, facilities to support relevant training or CPD (Continuing Professional Development), environments that provide regulatory assurance and set procedures for doctors training requirements.

Not all primary and secondary care organisations are approved by the GMC to offer an Approved Practice Setting (APS) so you could be working without knowing weather or not you are in the right place to gain the expertise you will need in the future.
